How We Open a Locked Safe
Non-destructive methods come first. A trained safe technician can often manipulate a mechanical dial or diagnose an electronic lock without harming the safe, which means you keep using it afterward. When drilling is the only path — and some lockouts leave no alternative — we drill a small, precise opening, retract the bolt work, and the hole can usually be repaired so the safe returns to service. What we never do is attack a safe with a pry bar or a grinder. The contents stay intact, and so does the option of keeping the safe.
Lost Combos and Dead Keypads
The two calls we get most: nobody remembers the combination, or the electronic keypad stopped responding. Keypad failures usually trace back to dead batteries, corroded contacts, or a failed circuit board — sometimes the lock itself is fine and only the keypad needs attention. Lost combinations on mechanical dials take manipulation or drilling, depending on the model. Inherited a safe with no combo? Bought a used filing safe at an office closeout? Bring proof of ownership and we'll get it open. Every job starts with ID and ownership verification, no exceptions.
We Open Safes. We Don't Sell Them.
Plenty of locksmiths push a new safe at the end of every opening. We don't carry inventory to move, so our only job is getting yours open and, where possible, working again. If a drilled safe can be repaired, we'll say so. If the lock or keypad failed, we'll tell you exactly what it needs. And if the safe is truly done, we'll tell you straight — and you can shop for a replacement anywhere you like.
Common Questions
How much does it cost to open a safe in NYC?
It depends on the safe and the lock type. You get a transparent quote before work begins, no hidden fees.
Can you open my safe without destroying it?
Often, yes. We try manipulation and diagnostics first. When drilling is the only option, it's a small, precise hole that can usually be repaired afterward.
Do you sell safes?
No. We open safes and service their locks only. If yours can't be saved, we'll tell you honestly and you can buy a replacement wherever you choose.
What do I need to show before you open a safe?
Photo ID and proof of ownership or written authorization. We verify on every safe job, residential or commercial, no exceptions.
