Deadbolts, Knobs, and Mortise Locks
We install every common lock type found on New York doors. Single- and double-cylinder deadbolts for apartment and house entries. Knob and lever sets for interior doors and offices. Full mortise lock bodies for older buildings and commercial storefronts. A fresh installation means boring new holes, cutting the strike, and aligning everything so the bolt throws without force. We carry stock on the truck, so most jobs finish in one visit. Want pick and drill resistance? Ask about the Medeco and Mul-T-Lock cylinders we carry.
Pre-War Doors Need a Careful Hand
Much of Manhattan's housing stock went up before 1940, and those doors are a different job. The wood is dense, the mortise pockets were cut by hand, and decades of paint hide warped frames. A big-box deadbolt forced into a pre-war door usually ends with splitting, or a bolt that never lines up. Our locksmiths measure the existing pocket, fit hardware to it, and chisel only where needed. The door keeps its character, and the lock works smoothly. If the door itself is the problem, we handle door repair and replacement too.
Hardware Grades, Explained Simply
Locks carry ANSI/BHMA grades. Grade 3 is light residential duty: fine for an interior door, weak for a street-facing entry. Grade 2 handles standard residential and light commercial use. Grade 1 is the strongest rating, built for heavy daily traffic and forced entry resistance, and it's what we recommend for building entrances, storefronts, and any door facing a public hallway or sidewalk. We'll tell you which grade fits your door and your budget, with a transparent quote before any work starts.
Common Questions
How much does lock installation cost in NYC?
It depends on the lock type and the condition of the door. You get a transparent quote before work begins, no hidden fees. Grade 1 and high-security hardware costs more than standard residential locks, and we'll walk you through the options.
Can you install a deadbolt on a door that never had one?
Yes. We bore the cross hole and edge hole, cut the strike mortise in the frame, and fit the deadbolt fresh. This works on wood, metal, and most fiberglass doors.
Do you install locks at night or on weekends?
Yes. We work 24/7 across all five boroughs. Evening and weekend installs are common for businesses that can't stop daytime traffic.
What lock brands do you carry?
We carry Medeco and Mul-T-Lock high-security cylinders along with standard residential and commercial hardware. If you have a brand preference, mention it when you call (646) 781-7070.
